Class E Hard Hat Standards | CustomHardHats.com

Class E Hard Hats
Class E hard hats are tested to withstand 20,000 volts of electrical current and protect the user’s head from arc flashes and electrical shock. Class E is the highest rating and is most effective at reducing exposure to high voltage currents. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires all employees who work in environments where high voltage hazards are present to use electrical rated hard hats.
While Class E rated hard hats provide the most protection against electrical hazards, all protective headwear has been divided into hard hat classifications by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in an effort to help laborers choose the hard hat that best suit their working environment.
- Class E (electrical) — tested to withstand 20,000 volts
- Class G (general) — tested to withstand 2,200 volts
- Class C (conductive) — provides no electrical protection
